-Help! I need desperate help im so depresed...I'm not sure if classroom and school work is right for me..yes even community college? What are better alternatives to CCollege besides military? However I am open to only Air Force. What about learning a trade at a community college? Different CC's have different Career and Technical certificate programs, but in my area, we have programs for chef/culinary and baking, plumbing, cosmetology, electrician, EMT, actor, photographer, auto mechanic, CNA (nursing assistant), dental assistant, special education assistant, personal fitness lifestyle trainer, bookkeeping, receptionist, etc. You don't take all the general education classes, except what is specifically needed for that career, like a electrician program might require math classes.
In CA we have something called Occupational Centers, they're like public adult schools. They also teach trades like the CC's.
Try to avoid those schools that advertise a lot, they are expensive, and many are scams. Community colleges will have the same courses, for a lower cost.
There may be a career center in your area, search your city's website for something like Youth Employment, and Google: Youth Employment Training, Your City, or Job Training Programs, Your City
What do you like to do? Is there something you are really good at? Figure out how you can earn a living with that. Start by writing a list of what you are good at and what you like to do, think of the careers that encompass those things. Look in the library for some books on careers, there might be something you're missing.
Good luck!My husband didn't go to college right away, either. He got some training to become an EMT and volunteered at the Rescue Squad for a while. (He did, however, get some compensation.) I would say your best bet is get a job personally. Learn some responsibility, get a schedule, get some experience. Especially if you DO decide to go to school later, jobs will love that you have experience also. Your options are wide open! Oh, or you could go for a paid internship!
Throw some clothes in a suitcase and hitch a ride to Oregon or Washington. Get a job on a fishing boat, or anyplace that will hire you. Save your wages and think about college later, when you have learned a few things about life that they don't teach in schools.
Other people go to Europe or Africa or South America for the same purpose, but the political scene is not great right now.
